This sand bag was carried on a gas balloon flight in the Gordon Bennett Balloon Race by Belgian team of Phillipe Quersin and Martial van Schelle. We can't be sure which year because they entered in each race from 1933 to 1938 but they never managed a podium finish.
It came to the BBM&L from Jasper Tomlinson via Giles Camplin both of whom helped Anthony Smith with his gas ballooning adventures in JAMBO.
