British Balloon and Airship Club (BBAC)
The BBM&L is affiliated to the BBAC, the regulatory body of UK ballooning. The membership includes pilots from the UK and the world, and is open to all with an interest in ballooning.
Airship Heritage Trust
The Airship Heritage Trust is a registered Charity set up in 1985 by a group of dedicated enthusiasts and relatives of the original crew members of the rigid airships. From its humble beginning the Trust has grown to where it is today, with it's membership spanning many countries, worldwide. The Trust’s principal objectives are: 1) To foster and promote the study of the history of airships and to present this to the public; 2) To stimulate public interest in the role of Cardington as an airship base, and encourage the preservation of it's principal buildings; and 3) To promote the development of a national museum and study centre devoted to the airship.
Airship Association
The only worldwide body catering solely for people interested in powered lighter-than-air aviation, with currently around 500 members world-wide.
Museums Association
They are the oldest museums association in the world, set up in 1889. They have over 10,000 individual members, 260 commercial members and 1,800 museums.
Association of Independent Museums
Addressing the needs of the growing Independent Museum sector. AIM represents, connects and strengthens the UK’s independent museums, galleries and heritage organisations.
British Association of Friends of Museums
The BAFM is an independent organisation established in 1973 for Friends, volunteers and supporters in museums, galleries and heritage sites representing more than 200,000 Friends and Volunteers across the UK. It offers a friendly and practical network of support from people with first-hand experience of running Friends organisations, acts as a clearing house for common problems and their solutions, and is a central source of information about Friends for Friends.
Farnborough Air Sciences Trust (FAST)
FAST was founded in 1993 to safeguard Farnborough’s priceless aeronautical heritage. They work to preserve and promote Farnborough’s great heritage in aviation science – an important educational resource and an internationally significant part of the nation’s scientific progress.
Aviation Heritage UK
Aviation Heritage UK, originally formed as The British Aircraft Preservation Council (BAPC) in 1967, is the national body for the preservation of aviation related items. It is a voluntary staffed organisation which undertakes a representation, co-ordination and enabling role.
Shuttleworth Trust
Old Warden and the Shuttleworth Collection is a private, unlicensed aerodrome, situated in a rural area. The Museum is housed in several aircraft hangars, one of which has several airship artefacts.
Royal Air Force Museum
The Royal Air Force Museum holds one of the finest collections of military aircraft, covering the period from the First World War to the advent of the V-Bomber Force and its exhibits also include military ballooning and its history. The Museum occupies two public sites; Hendon in North London and Cosford in Shropshire, West Midlands. At the Hendon site there is a WW1 observation balloon basket and of airship interest, they have the gondola of Nulli Secundus and the front section of the control car of the R33.
Science Museum
The Science Museum has a significant collection based at South Kensington. They also have a store at Wroughton, which is not open to the public. In the store they have 'Red Dragon' (G-ATTN) an American built Piccard hot air balloon, and a complete hot air airship 'Royal Bank of Scotland' (G-RBOS).
Cameron Balloons Limited
The BBM&L have an extensive selection of artefacts in a display near the reception of Cameron Balloons Ltd in Bristol. The public are welcome to view these but it is best to telephone first on +44 (0)117 9637216.
The Zebedee List
The Zebedee List, updated monthly, has details of hundreds of lighter-than-air equipment for sale, from whole balloons or airships, to envelopes, baskets, burners or trailers. These are for sale world wide, from all sorts of manufacturers, sizes and ages.
National Balloon Museum of America
Located in Indianola, IN, the museum ($5 entry fee, free for children 12 years and under) chronicles over 200 years of ballooning history.
