Midlands Air Festival 2026

G-MUSM one among many balloons

We had a great time at Midlands Air Festival. The weather was very breezy on Sunday but conditions were perfect on Saturday morning and Peter Lickorish flew G-MUSM for the Museum, and what a picture it was! 126 balloons launched in very low winds resulting in a fabulous spectacle for the crowd, yes lots of people had got up early and were treated to a colourful panorama of balloons.

Jonathan Harris took G-OSVO, the Servo Connector, from the Museum collection and inflated it on the Saturday with help from John Baker, John Crawford and Tim Turner. Its appearance at an air show was appropriate given the connectors use in 990 Tornado Jets and over 1,000 Hawk Jets, the same aircraft the RAF Red Arrows flew at the event.

The BBM&L stall was well supported and we raised funds and the profile of the BBM&L. Many visitors to the stall were keen to learn about the online museum we are creating with a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant, and promised to look us up when they got home…there being limited signal at the event due to the fantastic number of people attending and uploading photos to social media when possible.

Thank you to everyone who made it such a great event!
