American adventurer, Steve Fossett in a Cameron R-550 "Bud Light Spirit of Freedom" flew the first Solo Flight around the world in a balloon. He took off from Northam airport. West Australia and landed at the Blue Hills. Queensland. Australia. The distance was 33195.1 kms and the time was 320 hours 33 min.

American pilot Richard Clayton carried the first mail in an American Balloon. He flew from Cincinneti to Waverley Ohio, it was reported as the first transatlantic attempt but the ballon was too small for that venture. It was a solo flight . Richard was flying Star of the West a 510cub metre gas balloon. In 6hrs, he flew 75miles.
