The author was Wing Commander Gerry Turnbull's daughter and so was immersed in ballooning from an early age thus qualifying her to write this most useful book about how to go about becoming involved in the sport of ballooning.

She gained some fame in being the pilot of one of the first ( if not THE first) modern commercial hot air balloons - NIMBLE - which was the first balloon seen by so many people on the TV advertisement for Nimble bread with that catchy little tune ‘Up up and away in my beautiful balloon.’
