| Description: | The Observer supplement magazine for weekend 11 April 1971 with 17 pages and various stories and advertisements profusely illustrated with colour pictures. Cover photograph by Tom Sage showing G-AYAM inflated on the ground just before take off. The three page feature on ballooning is entitled ‘Up, Up And Away’ and inlude a double page spread of a Tom Sage picture of Alan Petrie standing in the basket of 'Bristol Belle' flying about 500 feet over houses accompanied by a very basic description of ballooning to coincide with the international balloon race organised by the London Balloon Club with launches around Dunstable and the winner to receive the Observer Trophy. The following page is a descriptive piece by French novelist Colette from her book ‘The Thousand and One Mornings’ translated by Margaret Crosland and originally published in Le Matin in 1912. This is the first time it has appeared in English. |
