Hardware: instruments

Black handheld radio with antenna. The microphone is separate to the body of the radio, connected by a coiled wire. There is a small, number, keypad on the radio.

Airband radio

Circular dial giving height in 100's feet, 1000's feet and 10000's feet. Has a dial at the base to calibrate for ground level above sea level. Instrument is set in a slightly larger surround to enable it to be fixed to the aircraft.

Altimeter, Smiths

Autopilot instrument housed in a wooden, front opening, rectangle box with temperature needle gauge, height dial and climb rate dial, plus various control switches

Autopilot

Side view, a black rectangle with a curved clear perspex screen, housing the drum, recording pen and needle. A thick elasticated cord top and bottom secures it in place.

Barograph

Silver coloured metal instrument with 2 handles and clip at top to hold the balloon fabric. Handles are joined by a bar, with round dial with the pressure readings, indicated by a needle. Together with wooden storage box complete with instructions.
