Mike Adams and Mike Sparks were both killed in a balloon accident involving G-BCCG "Clark Lift" in Saltby, Birmingham on the 8th October 1974. Their death shocked the close-knit ballooning community and deprived it of two men of great promise, remembered for their warmth, enthusiasm and humour as well as for their achievements. Mike Adams was a gas Balloonmiester and a successful hot air balloon competitor. Mike Sparks was a keen amateur filmmaker and made two films about ballooning Source: BBAC Website- Trophies

Mark Sullivan and Cheri White came 3rd in the America's Challenge Cup, which started in Albuquerque, New Mexico, by flying 1311 miles in a gas balloon and landing in Homer Georgia, USA. 4th place, landing on the same day was Frank Wechter and Tom Boylan who flew 1225miles landing in Franklin Georgia.
