BBM&L Annual Luncheon 2012

The 2012 luncheon was well attended, many people coming because of whom was going to be the post-prandial speaker, others came because it is such a nice re-union with friends and flying colleagues past and present. It has become an annual fixture on many calendars.

Chairman Richard d’Alton welcomed everybody especially the many newcomers, he thanked everybody who had donated memorabilia or special items for the raffle and auction.

Colin Prescot was a brilliant speaker and delivered a humorous and really interesting talk with some great slides, showing many events that he had taken part in, organised or totally enjoyed over the years.

It was not only excellent to welcome Colin, his wife Suzie and their daughter, but Joe and Heather Philp, who had travelled all the way up from the depths of the West Country. Tessa Tennant and Robin Batchelor made up many of the old Flying Pictures contingent, telling tales and yarns.

The Chairman’s trophy was presented to Martyn Turner by Richard d’Alton as appreciation of all the hard work Martyn had put in during the year. Not only had he organised the Inflation day team, co-ordinating everything with David Hopkins whose hospitality at Pidley was superb.

Martyn had also arranged filming for advertisements and a promotional BBM&L presence at a balloon meet in Holland, all of which brought important donations to the Museum. There were many other instances during the past year where Martyn had put himself out for the BBM&L and he really deserved the trophy.

The Auction of promises was run by the BBM&L President Robin Batchelor his skills in getting tremendous funds for the BBM&L is legendary and he surpassed it during this auction.
